Simple Machines

Simple machines are basic mechanical devices that are used to make work easier. There are six types of simple machines: the lever, the pulley, the inclined plane, the wedge, the screw, and the wheel and axle. These simple machines work by applying a force to an object in order to change its speed or direction of motion. Simple machines do not produce work, but they make it easier for us to perform work by allowing us to use less force over a longer distance. For example, a lever allows you to lift a heavy object by applying force over a shorter distance, while a pulley allows you to lift the same object by applying force over a longer distance.
